My home office is right on Michigan Street, the main thoroughfare in Plymouth. I do my morning devotions and prayers there--I've learned over the years that typing on the computer keeps my mind from wandering to my to-do list or what I want for lunch! It's also interesting to look back and see what I was praying for in previous years. I have an online small group (YouVersion) that I've been part of for more than a year, a devotional study to do on my own, and sometimes a group study (right now I'm doing Beth Moore's Chasing Vines) to choose from for that part of my day. For several years now I've included a short list of things for which I am grateful. Last year, when I felt sick so much of the time, I did a YouTube guided mediation on Psalm 118:24 (NKJV) "This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it" many mornings to get myself in a more positive state of mind. ("Starting the Day in God's Presence"). On busy days I often only get one of these done in the morning, but in the past couple of weeks, life has slowed down. There's more time to be holy. This morning as I sat down at the computer I heard an unexpected sound. The cars, busses, trucks, and motorcycles that normally drive by our house every morning were noticeably absent. I heard birds singing. Unless you're a health care worker or first responder, you probably have more time on your hands these days. I'd encourage you to take more time to be holy--to try some spiritual discipline you haven't tried before or a kind of devotional you've never done or haven't done for awhile.

This certainly isn’t the way I wanted to launch Tyner’s website! We were under the 250 people gathering limit on Sunday, March 15 so we held our worship service that day. I thought we might squeak by when the limit for gatherings was lowered to 50—if people didn’t bring too many guests. However, Monday evening INUMC Bishop Trimble requested the churches in our conference to cancel all services for the next four weeks—March 22 to April 12—Easter Sunday. On Monday I attended on a ZOOM conference with our district superintendent and other pastors from the North District where some ideas were shared for moving worship and connectional ministries online. So here we are. I threw together this website to get us started! I spent St. Patrick’s Day morning at my husband’s church, Trinity UMC in Plymouth, working with him and the women in their office on challenges for communication and giving in the coming month. I am also working with Jeff on ways to video the message for this coming Sunday using Trinity’s facilities and to make it available online for our congregation. I’ll also be contacting some of you about working on livestreaming worship for later Sundays. After I meet with Carla Weigand, the chair of Tyner’s Administrative Council, later this week to talk about communication and giving for our church I will send out a message via email and snail mail to everyone in the directory after that meeting. Stay safe and please let me or someone in the church know if you need something during the next few days. |
